What is your response to the new pact?

This is 1994 all over again except much, much worse. The Bush administration has fallen into the same trap Kim Jong-il laid out for the Clinton Administration. Except this time it is much, much worse: the Bush administration has done this, knowing that Kim Jong-il never abided by the 1994 agreement and since that time intentionally starved at least 2.5 million people to death. The Six Party Talks have achieved Kim Jong-il's objectives: he can now openly claim that the DPRK is a full-fledged nuclear power and can manipulate other countries into providing him enormous aid so he can remain in power while stringing us along with false promises. The agreement even intentionally does not address the uranimum enrichment program.

Once again, we have fallen into his trap ignoring the suffering of the North Korean people and betraying our own values for some agreement which will ultimately unravel. We have helped his brutal regime to survive instead of pressing him to reform.

다시 말하지만 우리는 북한주민들의 고통을 외면하고 우리들이 존중하는 인류의 보편적 가치, 인권을 외면하면서, 김정일의 함정에 다시 빠진 겁니다. 그리고 이 따위 합의란 궁극적으로는 다 무너질 합의입니다. 우리는 악독한 독재정권에게 개혁하라고 밀어부친 것이 아니라, 오히려 그 독재정권을 도와준 셈이 됐습니다.

How will it affect human rights and religious freedom in North Korea (if it does)?
이번 합의가 북한인권이나 북한의 종교자유에 어떤 영향을 미칠 거라고 생각하십니까 (영향을 미친다면)?

It is an enormous setback for human rights and religious freedom because we let Kim Jong-il set the agenda and betrayed the North Korean people by not standing up for them. His testing of nuclear weapons was a calculated response to the growing international awareness of his crimes against humanity. He had to get the agenda back and focused on nuclear weapons, which is why he tested them. We fell into his trap at the moment when he was really starting to feel the pressure to reform, especially having his ill-gained assets frozen.

김정일이 하자는대로 따라 하고 북한주민들을 위하여 들고 일어나지 않았으니 우리는 북한주민들을 배반한 것입니다. 북한인권과 종교자유에 크나큰 역행을 한 것입니다. 김정일이 핵실험을 강행한 것은, 국제사회가 김정일의 인권유린 말살 정책에 들고 일어나니까, 기획적으로 계산해서 한 일입니다. 그 자는 국제사회의 관심을 핵무기로 돌리기 위하여 핵실험을 한 것입니다. 김정일이 국제사회의 압력을 진짜 느끼기 시작했었는데, 특히 그 자의 검은 돈을 동결해서 급해 졌었는데, 우리 스스로가 김정일의 함정에 빠져들어간 것입니다.

No aid or support should be given to Kim Jong-il until the abductees from South Korea, Japan and other nations are returned to their homelands, the political prison camps are dismantled, and the North Koreans are allowed freedom to travel. How we can allow him to continue these atrocities against his own people and citizens of other nations?

김정일에게 지원 원조를 보낸다니 말도 안 됩니다. 김정일이 남한과 일본에서 납치해간 사람들을 돌려보내지도 않았고, 정치범수용소를 해체하지도 않았고, 북한주민들에게 여행할 자유도 주지 않았는데, 무슨 지원입니까? 김정일이 자국민과 외국인들을 저렇게 괴롭히는데, 그 자를 그냥 내버려 두자는 겁니까?
